Our story
began in 1967, with our co-founders, Eli and Dorothy Wielhouwer. Harnessing Eli’s skills learned in carpentry, cabinet making, and a stint working for a national window company, Eli and Dorothy started their first business: “Eli’s Glass”.
The company quickly grew, supplying and installing windows for both residential and commercial customers across Southwestern Ontario. Further growth occurred when they secured a contract with the Elgin County School Board, replacing glass and mirrors, which stood for approximately 25 years.
During time spent working with the Elgin County School Board, Eli recognized a demand for replacement toilet partition hardware, on the local and national level.
Capitalizing on this demand, in 1981, the company curated a large inventory of aftermarket toilet partition parts. Catalogs were printed and distributed to school boards across Canada, and eventually, colleges, universities, and hospitals. In addition to partition hardware, the expanded inventory of parts included commercial window and door hardware, as well as washroom and handicapped accessories.
In accordance with the expansion of market and scope, “Eli’s Glass” was renamed, as “Wielhouwer & Associates Inc”.
Over the next 35 years, other members of the extended Wielhouwer family became involved in the business, and glazing services were phased out as sales efforts were primarily focused on partition, door and window hardware.
Eli passed away on July 1st, 2023, at the age of 82, surrounded by his family.
The Wielhouwer family is carrying on Eli’s legacy, and the next generation has become involved.
